Good Ways to Make Money
Good Ways to Make Money in a Lousy Economy.
The general opinion seems to be that everyone is looking forward to 2009, with the hope that it will be a better year than what we have just experienced; I know I am, because 2008 could be summed up as an unmitigated disaster.
Christmas was a few days away and the family excited. The year was just about over, nothing else could possibly go wrong now… How wrong we were! Just to give us a final kick in the ribs, my daughter was admitted to hospital with suspected appendicitis! Luckily it turned out to be a false alarm, but it left us flat and wondering what else the gods could chuck at us before the year was out!
Looking back over 2008, it is hard to imagine how a select few Wall St Financiers could have such a devastating impact on one country’s economy let alone the flow on effect that is devastating the rest of the world.
I suppose it accurately sums up the impact of ‘one-eyed’ greed preying on the vulnerable.
So what for 2009? Personally I am simply looking for some good ways to make money and support my family, where I’m in control and no one else is ‘pulling my strings’. Staying at arm’s length from the horrific state of the world’s economy is not going to be an easy task, yet historically some of the best opportunities how come about during past recessions and depressions.
A guy I know through my daughter’s school tipped me off about the impending woes of the share market. He’d been trading for 30 yrs or more so I took his advice and didn’t lose too much when our small share holding was sold, but having got out where to go to next? Most other investments are in a mess, but I felt there had to be other good ways to make money without risking what little was left.
The search was on…
Having lost my job in the building industry due to a scuba diving injury, I knew that what ever I was going to do was going to be done from home, no choice, as rebuilding a shoulder does not happen over night.
A few years ago, my wife and I had been badly stung by the ‘internet guru’ money pit, so most ‘make money on the internet’ schemes were going to be approached with a significant dollop of caution. I’m not saying they are all bad, but there are still plenty that will help you lose your shirt.
But then again, there is an age old saying “Nothing ventured – Nothing gained” which I still believe holds true to almost everything one does. The fortunate part was we didn’t have a lot to venture. This would to be the financial anchor which would prevent us from dropping a heap of cash (which we didn’t have) into some guru’s harebrained scheme.
When one really starts drilling the ‘net’ for gold, it is fascinating just how much garbage exists. A large proportion of what is on offer seems to fulfill the dream of achieving riches for bugger all work. A dream that will never be reality, just as the ‘I made $?? Thousands in 7 days’ will only happen to 1 in umpteen million people and yet many gurus keep pushing the old chestnut!
Eventually a couple of opportunities appeared, both offering good ways to make money without major capital investment, and both showing the potential for secure long term income provided there is a commitment to learning something new and the work needed to get started.
